Once Alexander came to india and met one of the Gymnosophists who is sitting, doing nothing and watching stars.
Alexander asked "What are you doing?"
Alexander asked "What are you doing?"
Gymnosophists said "I am experiencing nothing."
Then Gymnosophists asked him "What are you doing?"
Alexander said "I am conquering the world."
They both laughed. Each one thought the other was a fool. Alexander felt that its a waste of life to do nothing. Gymnosophists thought its a waste of life to do anything.
Why these differences ?
If we look at their life, Alexander was told from birth that Its only one life (crossing the river once) and you need to do extraordinary spectacular things. He was told about life stories of great heroes. So within one life he wants to achieve everything.
But Gymnosophists was told about different story that you have many lifes (Crossing the river multiple time).
Alexander has only one life and the value of life is full of achievement. He is in urgency and needs to do everything in one life.
But Gymnosophists has many life and the value of life is zero. Because he can live the same life many times.
We need to figure it out.
